Joe Nash

Biological Scientist, ORAU/USFS

Research Interests

My research focuses on utilizing tree inventories to calculate biomass and carbon in forests. I have especially focused on the accumulation of biomass in standing trees and downed wood in northern hardwood stands of differing ages, and the role of downed wood in forest nutrient cycling.

Current Projects

As part of the US Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program's Carbon Science Group, I contribute to estimates of greenhouse gas emisions and removals on US forest land.

About me

I live in Michigan and enjoy hiking, camping, and skateboarding when the weather allows...and in the winter I love to break out the snowshoes and snowboard. I am also a certified mushroom forager and always enjoy trying new recipes. Many of my weekends are spent in the metro Detroit area enjoying great coffee, art, and live music.
