Research Interests

I am interested in wetland and forest soils and how their interactions with ecological processes influence ecosystem functions.

My current and recent research projects include studying (1) the application of biochar to amend forest soils and its effect on nutrient cycling and tree growth/survival (2) the influence of soil physical properties, precipitation, and climate on soil strength and operability, (3) how peatland forest characteristics relate to peatland hydrology, and (4) potential impacts of emerald ash borer on black ash wetland soils and forest composition.

When I'm not in the woods, I'm...

Photographing wildlife, foraging, camping, skiing, baking, or crafting artwork
