My research focuses on the effects that eastern spruce mistletoe (Arceuthobium pusillum) has on the regeneration, recruitment, and management of black spruce (Picea mariana), an important tree species both ecologically and economically here in Minnesota.
I am interested in studying forest disturbance ecology and how it intersects with stewardship/management.

My primary project will investigate the impact of emerald ash borer on black ash wetlands with a specific focus on post-invasion replacement species. I am also assisting with soil operability and biochar projects.

I am interested in applied topics including exploring interactions between forest management and disturbance, improving estimation of forest biomass and carbon, understanding fire and fuel dynamics in forests, and developing tools for forest managers to improve forest health and management techniques. To address these topics I have experience and interest with US Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data, LiDAR, Bayesian analyses, spatial analyses, and simulation modeling.
As the Program Assistant for University of Minnesota's Sustainable Forests Education Cooperative based at the Cloquet Forestry Center I help to promote excellence in natural resource management by bringing natural resource professionals together for continuing education events and programs.

I play competitive ultimate frisbee, disc golf, hike, and dirt bike for fun! My favorite sport to watch is hockey.

I love doing improv and stand up through the U of M as well as writing for Phony Magazine. If I'm inside I love reading, writing, knitting and cooking but if I'm outside I love hiking, rock climbing (although I do enjoy climbing inside as well), and canoeing.
Favorite Tree: A tie between paper birch (Betula papyrifera) and quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides)
Currently I am assisting with research in black spruce (Picea mariana) stands in order to better understand stand dynamics at varying levels of dwarf mistletoe infection. I am also involved with the University of Minnesota Extension as an intern for the Great Lakes Silviculture Library.
