Research Interests

My broad research interests include forest ecology and wetland restoration, including disturbance ecology and mitigating the effects of our rapidly shifting climate.

My current research is based in the floodplains of the upper Mississippi River, using dendrochronology and other methods to investigate forest health and composition with the hopes of informing land managers on how to improve or maintain forest health.

In Utah I was involved in research investigating population dynamics in stands of ponderosa pine found outside their historical range on the Wasatch Front using dendrochronology and mtDNA to justify their persistence at these sites and investigate viability in other similar regions in which they're presently absent.

When I'm not in the woods, I'm...

cycling, bouldering, watching baseball or hockey depending on the season, and most of all, drinking with my dog.
