Research Interests

My research is focused on understanding the impact of snow cover and and related factors on soil temperature and frost development in forested peatland systems. I am studying this relationship through the use of a paired plot experimental design in which snow cover is removed from one plot while remaining undisturbed on the other. This allows for direct comparison between plots and among various research sites to determine the impact of the snow removal on soil temperature and frost development.

When I'm not in the woods, I'm...

I love to go hiking or just generally spend time outside with my dog, Murphy. I am an avid reader and devour mystery novels and memoirs. I also enjoy yoga, gardening, rock climbing, although my skills for all three are questionable at best!

Education

St. Olaf College

Favorite Tree: Either sugar maple (Acer saccharum), because I love making maple syrup, or black spruce (Picea mariana) because they can survive (and thrive!) in conditions where few other species can succeed.
