Lucia Fitts

Biography

Research Interests

My current research interest focuses on land use and land cover change of boreal and temperate forests across the United States. It focuses especially on the carbon fluxes over the years, and how disturbances affect the carbon stored in the tree’s wood. In addition to that, I am interested in the probability of conversion from forest to non-forest and its relationship with disturbances and other agents.

David C Wilson

Biography

Research Interests

I work on questions related to forest growth and development incorporating environmental, ecological, and forest inventory data available from various sources.

I am currently involved in Rapid Forest Inventory, Guidelines Monitoring and Assessment, and 3-D Forest Canopy Change Mapping

My overarching research goal is to apply forest biometrics approaches to analyses of the development and sustainability of ecological, social, and economic values of the forest.

Jason Reinhardt

Biography

Research Interests

Broadly, I am interested in applied forest ecology and geospatial science. My research focuses on answering questions and solving problems relating to the ecology and management of invasive species, threatened species, and ecosystem restoration. I approach these questions from the bottom-up via site-level research, as well as top-down in the form of landscape ecology and remote sensing.

Biography

Research Interests

Biometrics, growth and yield modeling, quantitative silviculture...i.e. quantifying the effects of differing management regimes and silviculture treatments on tree- and stand-level parameters

Ram Deo

Biography

Research

I apply GIS tools and remotely sensed such as Landsat and LiDAR to map forest structural attributes.

I currently do regional scale forest biomass/carbon mapping for national greenhouse gas inventory.

Life outside of the lab

I like travelling, biking, swimming, and listening to music.

Favorite tree: Red pine (Pinus resinosa)

Biography

Research Interests

My research interests involve applications of remotely sensed data to understand broad-scale landscape patterns. I have worked to integrate 3D point clouds and their derivatives with time series satellite imagery for mapping and monitoring, most recently to identify the abundance of ash trees in Minnesota.

My current work is researching applications of time series satellite imagery to aid the U.S. Forest Service in Environmental Analysis and Decision Making (EADM).

Biography

Research Interests

My interests include experimenting with novel and sustainable solutions to solve environmental issues and communicating a passion for natural resources to the public

I'm studying the effects that biochar as a soil amendment has on jack pine seedling growth and survival during drought periods.

When I'm not in the woods, I'm...

probably reading, eating sweets, caring for houseplants, or to be honest I'm probably still in the woods...

Education

Ella Gray

Biography

Research Interests

I am interested in forest and disturbance ecology - particularly how management activities can increase forests' resilience to disturbances and how disturbances unfolding spatially across the landscape.

Currently, I am studying the effects of a spatial-explicit disturbance – eastern dwarf mistletoe infestation – in lowland black spruce forests and the consequences for management at both the stand and landscape scales.

When I'm not in the woods, I'm...

Reading, cooking or baking, and likely planning my next venture to the woods
